The Taxpayers Association (“Association”) of El Dorado County was founded in Placerville, California in 1958. It was incorporated as a Non-Profit Organization in the State of California on March 10, 1965. It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(4) Civic League and Social Welfare Organization. The principal office for the transaction of business is in El Dorado County. The mailing address for the Association is Post Office Box 2023, Placerville, California 95667.
Since that time, the Association’s weekly public meetings have been an essential stop for members of the Board of Supervisors, local legislators, elected and appointed officials, candidates for public office, and other community leaders.
The Association’s members come from diverse backgrounds and have a range of perspectives on topics such as land use, environmental protection, social issues, and political party preference. However, what unites members is a desire to ensure that local governments have someone watching to ensure they responsibly use their funds, and a passion to educate their fellow citizens on local taxpayer issues.
General membership is open to any El Dorado County property owner. Each November, general members have the opportunity to elect the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors are responsible for governing the Association, electing officers, and determining the Association’s policy recommendations. The Board of Directors may also appoint members to serve on committees to investigate and provide recommendations on major issues facing the county – currently the Association has active committees dedicated to the county budget and road maintenance.
Weekly membership meetings are held every Monday morning, excluding major holidays, at 7:30 a.m. at Denny’s Restaurant in Placerville (map). Guests are welcome to join us. Unless otherwise noted, members can also join the meetings via Zoom videoconference or telephone. Meetings featuring guest speakers are broadcast live and archived on the Association’s Facebook page.
The Association always welcomes new members to support our mission of holding local government accountable and supporting responsible use of tax dollars. For information on membership, please contact the Association at info@taxpayersedc.org.
