The Taxpayers’ Association of El Dorado County Board of Directors voted at its February 19, 2024 Regular Meeting to recommend a No vote on Proposition 1.  Proposition 1 would redirect existing funding for mental health services from county governments to the state. Additionally, it would authorize $6.38 billion in bonds which will require either future tax revenue increases or spending cuts to pay back.  Those bonds would fund treatment facilities and housing, but only programs that conform to the requirements of housing first could apply. As a result, worthy programs that require their recipients to abstain from drug or alcohol use or even just seek treatment for addiction would not be eligible for funding.  Additionally, Prop. 1 would allow projects funded by the bond to proceed without local government planning review.
